So here's how that Ely Poster turned out....

First off, I'd like to thank God for the two snow days we got in which I got to dedicate some serious work to this project. Had I been required to turn it in on time, I would have been severely dissatisfied.
I started out with a really rendered colored pencil version, but found that after the digital application of color, it looked a little too messy for my liking. So I redid all the coloring and drew over the linework digitally. I was really pleased with the image (aside from the type... I'll fix that later on).
Out of all the seniors' posters, the image we picked to be mass produced was an awesome design by Jim Tierney. So congratulations to him, he totally deserves it!

Ely ely ely, I've had enough of this Ely guy!

We have been asked to design the poster for our senior thesis exhibition.
This is Round One of the sketch phase. I'm abandoning the third idea and amping up the first two compositions in another round of sketches. From there I will select one to take to final illustration, and then I will perfect the type design.
My favorite is the crabbies, but I'm nearly positive the client would rather go with the sidewalk chalk. We shall see which is the victor...

Twenty twenty twenty four hours to go...

HAYWARD, Wis. (Oct. 17) -- Shoppers in a Wisconsin grocery store got an unexpected surprise when a 125-pound black bear wandered inside and headed straight for the beer cooler.

Here is a piece that landed me a good crit. I wasn't the proudest I've ever been, but given the circumstances I was satisfied with the piece. The forties need some adjustment. JonReinfurt told me to go get reference, then quickly corrected himself by adding "on the internet!"

These are some spot illustrations I did the recipe book I'm making for my Bookbinding class final.

stuffy nose, scratchy throat, stomach from hell, and three drunk bears

Finishing all my assignments except my thesis sketch, which is due Tuesday. These are some bears I drew for Jon Reinfurt's class on Thursday.

Notice that the koala and Chewbacca are both pissed. Can you guess why? (Science class)

Too many cats in the kitchen.

DUDLEY, Mass. -A Massachusetts town has made it illegal to own more than three cats without getting a special license. Voters at a town meeting in Dudley added language to a town bylaw on Monday night that makes it illegal to own more than three cats without a $50 residential kennel license.
The article was in response to a neighborhood feud over the 15 cats owned by Mary Ellen Richards. The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reports that one neighbor claimed the cats have ruined his yard. Richards has put her home up for sale and says she plans to move to a "more cat-friendly community."
Dudley is about 60 miles southwest of Boston.

Only in art school can your homework be about monkeys and beer.

I am so so happy with this, it's my favorite piece of the whole semester thusfar. After revising the first version, I thought "Damn it! Why didn't I pick beer bottles for my thesis?!" (Though I'm sure I'll have just as much fun with what I did pick... SECRETS TO BE REVEALED SPRING 2010)

Third time's the charm.

Well, that cliche isn't necessarily true. This is the third time I've redone this project. I'm still not entirely satisfied with it, but the progress I've made gives me some hope. I like the urine a lot more than the venue name/date/time.

Ooooh! Whoooo sent me mail?

I designed a Halloween greeting card, complete with stickers that I cut out with an xacto knife at 1 in the morning while people outside celebrated the Phillies making it to the World Series.

Hey look, I'm on the internet for something actually worthwhile!

So I won this contest and now I'm on Art in the Age's blog! My grilled cheeses are going to be worn by the official volunteers of FeelGood. Woo! Hooray for me and my resume!

And that's JonWeed. He used to sit next to me at my internship. His name is one word.
